Live in CA, want to start going to car auctions to buy cars What type of license do I need and how do I get it

I know there are car auctions where only people with some certain licenses are allowed to go in. They can bring guests and all purchases even though by the guests are done through them, that is, under their license. They do not have like a lot or anything like that. What type of license is this and how can I obtain it.

1. if you sell like over 5 cars a year you would need a dealers licence.
2. In CA it depends on where you will be selling them. If you want to buy at auction and sell to dealers, or recon adn reauction the cars, you can get a wholesalers license. On that license you are allowed up to 5 cars per year retail. If your intention is to sell them to the general public, then you need a retail dealers license. 4. In California you can either have a dealer's license, a broker's license or a sales license. The dealer and broker levels require the same 6 hour course and exam followed by an exam at the DMV. Both require a bond. Dealers will have additional hoops to jump through while brokers have less after the DMV exam. To buy at auction you will only need the broker's license. The sales license is only good as the employee of a licensed dealer and means that you can represent the dealer's inventory to the general public and any unlawful activity penalizes the dealer.
